Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi: Inspiring Desi of the Day

Harpal Singh Sokhi is an Indian chef, restaurateur, author, and entrepreneur. In 2013, he started his chain “The Punjabi Tadka”. He has also hosted the show Turban Tadka. Mr. Harpal has written food columns and a book titled ‘Royal Hyderabadi Cooking’ (authored with Sanjeev Kapoor). In 2012, he won the title of the Most Admired Celebrity Chef of the Year. In 2016, he was awarded the Best Chef of the Year by the Indian Restaurant Awards. In 2017, he was honored as the Most Popular Food Show Host by Food Food Channel.

The Yousofi family immigrated from Afghanistan to Canada in 2009. They immediately felt an absence in Vancouver for a place where they can get a taste of back home. Afghanistan has one of the richest cuisine in the world, and the Yousofi family made it a dream that they will one day bring that taste over here in Canada. For the next 10 years the family worked hard getting involved in the food and hospitality industry, then finally opening their doors the community through their store Pamir Diner in 2019. They strongly believe in authentic Afghan food, and each one of their dishes are made to take you in a journey to Afghanistan.

Pankaj Bhadouria is the winner of MasterChef India. Season 1 (2010). She was a school teacher who quit a 16-year-old job to participate in the first season of MasterChef India. She has hosted the TV shows Chef Pankaj Ka Zayka, Kifayati Kitchen, 3 Course with Pankaj, Rasoi se- Pankaj Bhadouria ke Saath, Sales Ka Baazigar. She was the first MasterChef Winner worldwide to have an official MasterChef Cookbook in her name and has written two more cookery books Barbie- I am a Chef, and Chicken from my Kitchen.

Alfred Prasad is credited with elevating the reputation of British Indian food with his delicate treatment of fresh, seasonal produce. Becoming the youngest Indian chef to receive a Michelin star at the age of twenty-nine, he retained this accolade at Tamarind for twelve years. He is now a consultant chef, showcasing the variety, as well as the quality, of Indian food.

TAVA Fine Indian Cuisine is a family-owned fine Indian dining restaurant based in New York. Originated from the Persian word tāve, in Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu, “Tava/Tawaa” means cooking pan. It is a large, convex, disc-shaped pan used primarily for cooking traditional Indian dishes such as roti, chapati, paratha, dosa, and many other types of flatbreads. Chef Anahita Dhondy: Inspiring Desi of the Day

Chef Anahita Dhondy got her start at age 10 by helping her mother, herself a chef and caterer, in the family kitchen. In 2013, she opened her first restaurant, SodaBottleOpenerWala, a casual and trendy café dedicated to bringing Parsi cuisine to new audiences. Dhondy is internationally recognized for her advocacy work regarding Parsi culinary heritage. She was featured in Forbes’s 30 Under 30 Asia 2019 list, and in 2018, she represented SodaBottleOpenerWala at the EAT Forum and was honoured as a Condé Nast Traveler’s Innovator of the Year. In 2017, she was awarded “Indian of the Year” in the hospitality sector.
