Chef Jehangir Mehta: Inspiring Desi of the Day

Jehangir Mehta is the executive chef and owner of New York City restaurants Graffiti, Me and You and Graffiti Earth. He is also the author of the 2008 HarperCollins cookbook “Mantra: The Rules of Indulgence,” offers a cooking class at his restaurant for children 4-14 called “Candy Camp” designed to build interest in more diverse foods, hosts exclusive in-home dinner parties and runs an event planning company. In August 2009, Jehangir appeared on “Iron Chef America” on Food Network, and was the runner-up on the second season of “The Next Iron Chef” later in 2009.

Azad Kitchen is a Pakistani fusion restaurant in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. It was started by Muhammad Saud, a talented chef and restauranteur who runs a Pakistani restaurant called Alif Cafe in Upstate New York.

Azad Cafe had limited service in its trial location — only 3 nights a week for dinner. Menu was pre-fixed and changed every month. Because it was a limited-run popup, it was hard to get reservations. But luckily I managed and this video shows you the whole incredible experience!

Chef Sujan Sarkar: Inspiring Desi of the Day

Sujan Sarkar is the chef and creator of two nationally recognized modern Indian restaurant brands in the United States. He continues to explore, understand, and reimagine what the future of Indian cuisine can be by experimenting and stretching the boundaries of traditional Indian menus. His first U.S. restaurant concept, ROOH, opened in early 2017 in San Francisco and is a critically acclaimed restaurant. Sarkar opened his first Indian gastro bar called BAAR BAAR in New York. Since then, ROOH has opened in New Delhi, Chicago, Columbus and, most recently, Palo Alto. Sarkar has received multiple awards including Times of India Chef of the Year (2016) and Elite Magazine’s International Chef of the Year.

Aarti Sequeira is a cooking show host, cookbook author, journalist, television producer and food personality. Aarti is a mainstay on Food Network after winning season six of Food Network Star. In addition to hosting her own shows, Aarti Party and the travel show, Hidden Eats, she also serves as judge on hit shows like Guy’s Grocery Games, Cooks vs. Cons, and Christmas Cookie Challenge. A gifted writer, Aarti published her first cookbook, Aarti Paarti: An American Kitchen with an Indian Soul in 2014 (Grand Central).
